Retiring farmers Betty and Stu had lived on their farm in the house they had built as a young couple, for over 40 years. So moving into the city for retirement was quite a change for them and designing their retirement home was very important. The house needed to accommodate good garaging and have plenty of space for family gatherings and people to stay. The house needed be low maintenance and be warm with both good design for sunlight but also a full central heating system. Privacy also needed to be considered in the design as although the site was large for a town site, neighbours were not something the clients were used to.
